The coronavirus pandemic has caused unprecedented challenges for young people and is exposing the deep inequality that exist in Zimbabwe. According to UNFPA 62 percent of Zimbabwe ‘s population is under 25 years of age. Making this demography the most at risk to be severely affected by the pandemic. They are 4 times more likely to be unemployed than adults and most of them are in the informal sector and informal employment.
In this series NewThinking Development is seeking young people from any profession and background with good writing skills to explore the effects of the pandemic on young people’s lives and their livelihood. The series seeks to amplify the voice of the young person in Zimbabwe on how the coronavirus has affected their lives and livelihood. To suggest practical solutions/ recommendations for government, business and society to help support young people during response and recovery from the pandemic. The opinion pieces will be published in a NewThinking Review Publication that will be made public with credit to the writers. The publication will also include contributions from Rumbidzai Takawira aka News Bae a journalist, news anchor, philanthropist and public speaker and Samkeliso Tshuma Co-founder and content producer of the Girls Table, founder of the Winners Circle and co-host of Amakhosikazi Media Women’s News Beat show at Skyz Metro FM.
